Kora Green City aparthotel, Vitoria-Gasteiz

The choice of Vitoria-Gasteiz as European Green Capital in 2012 was a social milestone that promoted ecological awareness of what has become one of the most sustainable cities in Spain. It is no surprise that many business projects developed since then are marked by a greencommitment.

This is the case of Kora Green City aparthotel, a coliving space promoted by the company Kategora, which develops sustainable, technologically radical housing with a powerful architectural draw. It is, quite simply, the the largest Passivhaus accommodation in Europe. In other words, it can be stated without fear of exaggeration that we are looking atone of the most sustainable buildings in the world. The energy savings as a result of its design, construction and use are equivalent to the air purification contributed by a forest of 13,500 trees.

A significant part of the ecological nature of this building is its façade, made with VIGAM, the laminated wood beam with the CE marking for structural use. Specifically, the owners chose radiata pine with a dye finish. The result is a curtain wall of great beauty that, in addition to contributing to the sustainable vocation of the construction, provides warmth thanks to the quality wood.
