St. Edward’s School, Oxford

The extension of this school in the north of Oxford had the challenge of providing facilities with modern aesthetics and ease of use, that at the same time maintain the original character of the school, that dates back to 1863.

Judging by the awards (RIBA South Award 2022 and Oxford Preservation Trust Award 2021) the studio TSH Architects, headed by Nick Hardy, have done just that.

The project consists of two buildings: a learning centre and the assembly hall (“Olivier”). The welcoming, elegant gabled roof is made of VIGAM, the only oak glulam in the world with the CE marking for structural use.

One more example of the creative and sustainable possibilities of glulam wood in architecture and construction.
